The Story Behind the Cup
From Panaikang Village in South Sulawesi’s Gowa Regency, this washed Typica microlot comes from Yolan Tirta, a third-generation coffee producer helping revive specialty coffee in the region. Grown at 1250 MASL in fertile volcanic soil, the coffee benefits from a tropical climate, abundant rainfall and the biodiversity of nearby conservation forests.
Founded in 2016, Yolan’s mill focuses on improving quality through careful processing and better infrastructure, including drying stations and greenhouse drying to manage the region’s high humidity. The coffee is grown without chemical fertilisers, relying instead on natural methods that support sustainability and allow farming to work alongside the surrounding forests and wildlife. Through improved infrastructure, mini mills, and drying stations, Yolan and his team are helping local farmers access the specialty market and build a stronger coffee community in Gowa.
